PRONONCIATION

Here are some other combinations with the letter “e.”

ent – This combination of letters is a common ending of a verb form (3rd person plural — covered later!), and it is not pronounced at all.
Example:
ils (m.)/elles (f.) parlent — they speak
elles attendent, ils dansent, elles chantent, elles écrivent, ils boivent, ils choisissent, elles lisent, ils tombent

However, in words other than verbs, “ent” is pronounced like the sound “en” in the French word “tente.” It is also equivalent to the sound “an” in the French word “France.”
lentement, vraiment, entrée, serpent, moment, entendu

ed, er, ez – These combinations of letters are found at the end of some words; they sound a little like the “ay” in the English word “day.” You will notice that the final consonants are silent.
venez, et, pied, aimer, parlez, dansiez, essayer, assied, comprenez, escalader, féliciter, sentier

Note: The word “et” meaning “and” also sounds a little like the “ay” in “day,” but it is more cut off.
