In this section we will study the pronunciation of more vowel sounds.

i – This letter sounds like the “ee” in “tee.”
ici, visite, inutile, Algérie, politesse, Mistigris, milice, pizza, élimine, ami, Christine, Virginie, si, ni, Italie

o – au – eau – These vowels sound like the “o” in the word “nose,” but it is actually almost half the sound. You have to try to chop off the last part of the long English “o.”
bateau, modeste, photo, vélo, au, cadeau, Pauline, aussi, cause, drapeau, eau

u – This vowel does not sound like anything in English! If you round your lips while
trying to say “ee,” as in “tee” you will be close.

u, venu, rue, étudie, minuscule, tutu, devenu, du, musique, publicité, chute, murmure, pupitre, jupe, absurde, humide

ou – These letters together sound like “oo” in “school.”
